Project Wings
History

Story of the foundation

Our team is as diverse as it is determined. We want to give something back to the planet!

Four people – one vision.

Between 2017 and 2018, the four founders met while working for aid organizations. Marc, Basti, Leonie and Erich traveled through Germany for a total of 12 years and raised new supporters for various NGOs as face-to-face fundraisers. In the process, they learned a lot about the most important characteristics of aid organizations from their perspective.

It was time to found their own NGO with the aim of making environmental protection socially acceptable. Basti often traveled to various projects around the world and began fighting the plastic flood with locals in Indonesia in 2018. This gave rise to our organization Project Wings in 2019, with the motto “FIND A WAY, NOT AN EXCUSE”, to make the world a better place.

Biodiversity and plastic waste.

It is no longer news that Indonesia is being flooded with plastic and at the same time the species-rich rainforests are being turned into monoculture palm oil plantations.

Driven by the desire to tackle these problems, Basti came up with the idea of introducing an Ecobrick deposit system. The locals were motivated by the payment to collect the plastic waste. The Ecobrick is not a “new invention”, but rather a globally widespread solution for compressing waste and using it as a building material.

However, the idea of an ecobrick deposit system is an innovation in ecobricking.

As founders born between 1990 and 1998, the topic of “environmental protection” is a generational issue for us.

We must act.

Now it is up to us to make the topic of environmental protection socially acceptable. Together we can achieve great things! Our holistic and scalable projects aim to build the world’s largest recycling village and actively promote animal welfare, nature conservation and education.

In Indonesia and Germany, we are committed to making a decisive difference through our project work. We firmly believe that every contribution counts!

What once began as a small group of four has developed into a colorful, imaginative team in recent years. A wide variety of characters contribute their diverse skills to preserve our planet for future generations.

Let’s act together and change the world!

Short & sweet

What have we achieved so far?

Since Project Wings was founded in March 2019, we have already made a lot of progress and achieved numerous goals. Together with volunteers, sympathizers, experts and many supporters from Indonesia and Germany, we have been able to grow strongly to this day. We are constantly trying to develop ourselves further, optimize processes, learn from mistakes and, together with other organizations, pool knowledge and channel solutions.

In the meantime, we have been able to construct seven important public buildings made of Ecobricks on and around the recycling village with our innovative construction method and two more are nearing completion. So far, more than 220 tons of plastic waste have been collected, cleaned, processed and reused. Together with local organizations and the support of the government, we are in the process of establishing the region’s first waste management system.

Over 35,000 trees have been planted so far and meaningful animal welfare programs have been implemented. We were also able to get children and young people in many schools in Germany interested in the topic of environmental protection and support our regional orchards. We are constantly trying to develop ourselves further, optimize processes, learn from mistakes and, together with other organizations, pool knowledge and channel solutions.

That’s not it yet!
