2020 will be a very exciting year for Project Wings and Sumatra! Not only for the start the construction of our Recycling Village but also our project partners will be fully equipped!

The year has only just started and we are already in the middle of events. Our Ranger-Patrol is now fully prepared and already on the job.

Next, the construction of the ´Trashbank´.

So far, our volunteers have been staying with our project partners. Now our cooperation partners are creating accommodation for our volunteers from Ecobricks!

The start of the year will see a recycling machine built in Bukit Lawang. From this, new things can come from the old melted-down plastic waste! Through that we are completing the reusable material cycle and can effectively recycle more waste which will be processed into useful objects.

From May, the permaculture garden is being created. A permaculture garden is a sustainable concept of farming, whereby the natural ecosystem is supported and preserved.

Then it’s ready! The plot of land for the Recycling Village is being bought. The first building on the plot will be a package-free shop. With this, the inhabitants and tourists can go without unnecessary packaging and buy package-free! We will be getting to the root cause of the waste problem and it will never come into circulation again.

Of course, we will continue to buy Ecobricks in order to recycle plastic and to use for the Recycling Village. Trees will also continue to be planted diligently so that the animals can once again get back their habitat.

All of the Project Wings team will be back in Bukit Lawang from January to February to pursue the progress of the last year, coordinate projects, and lend a hand.

With that we are starting full of energy in 2020! This year we would like to achieve so much more. The vision is to make the largest Recycling Village in the world and a healthy planet real!
